The Dawn of The Clans - Summary Essay

 Okay, so I’d written part of this essay before my break. I finished it last week. 

Unfortunately, I was a little ill on Sunday and Monday. I’m getting this blog up this week, and hopefully can start on next week’s post too. 

I’ve got a slightly longer essay planned for next week. It’ll be a full one rather than a summary essay. I will definitely need to put in some solid time to get it ready on time.

Anyway, I’m glad to finally have this essay finished. And hooray! We’re onto Code of the Clans for our short stories now.

The main theme of the short story The Dawn of The Clans is chaos. The chaos in the story is created by a lack of borders, which is fine for a few cats, but remains the case when cats keep coming into the woodland, as it’s ‘good territory for the cats.’ pg 1. Scarcity of prey means chaos leads to large battles. One battle seems to include all of the cats together. The spirits of the dead ask the living cats to live in their separate hunting grounds and communities. They do this by setting down borders and creating order. This story shows how chaos starts slowly and quickly gains momentum, until order can be created.

There are no main characters in the short story The Dawn of The Clans, from the guidebook Code of the Clans. This is because all the characters are singularly mentioned, unknown individuals and arbitrary groups. Not a single character is given any sort of significance that may count them as a main character. As such, no main characters are present in this text.

The main situations in The Dawn of The Clans are as follows. Cats came to settle in a patch of dense woodland close to the edge of a moor. There were many places to hunt in the woods, river, and moor. The cats settled where their preferred prey lived. There were no borders and few battles. During a period of prey scarcity, many cats began fighting more frequently. After a battle with much death, the spirits of the dead asked the remaining living cats for peace. Five of them stepped forward and vowed to ensure the fighting ended to preserve each territory for generations.
