Four Will Become two, Lion and Tiger Will Meet in Battle, and Blood Will Rule the Forest - Summary Essay
This prophecy, I feel, has the most impact. Not just the warning itself, but what it foretells. I want to talk about the effect of the prophecy itself first, though.
When I first read this on the back of The Darkest Hour, I could not begin to fathom what it meant. I just knew it was not good. That last line: "And blood will rule the forest!" Hearing that is terrifying. It's not a prophecy quickly forgot.
For the character, also it has a huge impact. The scene of the hill of bones dripping with blood just drew it home.
From memory, Firestar doesn't even see Bluestar. He can't turn away from the hill of bones and only hears her voice. The fear he must have felt being given such a dire prophecy. Part of it clearly refers to Tigerstar, whom he was already worried about. The state it must have left him in.
Having something like that weighing over you. Firestar was the only one who had that experience and knew the most among the living cats. It takes an extreme toll on your mental state and saps your physical strength.
When the prophecy comes to pass, it is a crucial point in Firestar's growth. Both we, as the reader, and Scourge, see the true power of StarClan. The strength of their faith is confirmed for the Clan cats (those that believe in them anyway).
In this battle, Firestar shows his worth as a leader. He will always be a ThunderClan cat, but he will do all he can so that no Clan will fall to tyranny or destruction.
The central theme in Four Will Become two, Lion and Tiger Will Meet in Battle, and Blood Will Rule the Forest is faith. Faith in one's religion can give hope, even when chances of success seem low. Having a faith can also give people strength and pride. Firestar's faith in StarClan helped him to face the something-terrible that was coming. Though he didn't know the prophecy's meaning, he trusted StarClan would help keep the Clans safe and help defeat their enemies. Firestar's faith in his warrior ancestors enabled him to defeat BloodClan.
The main character in the short story is the protagonist, Firestar. The tale is told in the first person by Firestar, directly to the reader. The antagonist in Four Will Become two, Lion and Tiger Will Meet in Battle and Blood Will Rule the Forest is Scourge and BloodClan. However, they appear in less than half of the short story and cannot be considered main characters. Other characters are named in the tale, but each is mentioned once and not the main characters. Firestar is the only main character found in Four Will Become two, Lion and Tiger Will Meet in Battle and Blood Will Rule the Forest.
The main situations in the short story are in the following sentences. Firestar gets the prophecy in his leadership ceremony. There's a hill of bones, and Bluestar whispers, "Something terrible is coming" Pg 127. The first two phrases of the prophecy referred to the forming of TigerClan, under Tigerstar's leadership and the formation of LionClan. Tigerstar allied with Scourge. TigerClan and LionClan had to unite to defeat Scourge and BloodClan. Firestar defeated Scourge thanks to his faith in his warrior ancestors and his nine lives.
