The theme of A Forbidden Love is a common one. Love is strong. And it’s true, there are few things that can overcome it. The problem with most media is it perpetuates this idea to an extreme.
Has anyone else grown tired of hearing ‘Love can conquer anything’. When consuming media that says this, I concede that it is trumped by little. But it can’t ‘conquer anything’.
That’s one thing I love about Warriors. It doesn’t show a slightly more perfect world, especially for the sake of pushing a theme or idea.
Crowfeather and Leafpool’s love is doomed to failure from the start. We all know this. Even the characters know and acknowledge it. Despite their attempts to do anything to be together, it’s shown to be impossible in the main arc.
That’s not what this short story's about though. It’s about love’s strength. So it ends with a determination to be together no matter what.
The main theme in A Forbidden Love is love. Love is a powerful emotion, and, as such, is difficult to ignore. It can influence someone’s behaviour and choices, and is something that is often impossible to fight or control. Crowfeather fell in love with Leafpool. He wished he could love a cat from his own Clan, but he couldn’t control his feelings. He hoped to forget about her when they got to the lake. Being forced together again frequently he couldn’t fight it anymore and told Leafpool how he felt about her, and saw she felt and wanted them to be together too.
There are two main characters in the short story. The first is the protagonist, Crowfeather. The story is told in first person, so he talks directly to the reader, explaining the events from his point of view. Leafpaw is his romantic interest for the bulk of the story, and, as such, is also a main character. The antagonist is the abstract idea of their love for one another rather than a character. These are all the main characters found in A Forbidden Love. All the other characters that appear or are mentioned in the story play either minor or incidental roles.
The main situations are summarised here: Crowfeather fell in love with Leafpool. He frets about the repercussions of these feelings both on his Clan loyalty, and her connection to StarClan. His feelings come back each time he sees her. Leafpool brings Crowfeather a message that suggests Feathertail approves of his new love. Mudclaw attacks Onewhisker with help form other Clans. Two ShadowClan cats Crowfeather is chasing in ThunderClan’s woods die from falling from a cliff. He saved Leafpool from falling and confessed his feelings. Seeing she felt the same, he decided they would find a way to be together.
Thank you so much for reading. I hope you enjoyed it.
