How The Moonstone Was Discovered - Summary Essay

To me, How The Moonstone Was Discovered was one of the most compelling pieces of lore we could have gotten. When I first picked up a copy of Secrets of the Clans and saw that title, I was gone. I could not hear or respond to anyone or anything until I had read it.

The question first came to my mind when reading Into The Wild, and hearing the Clans' beliefs about the Great Cats.

As soon as they got me thinking about the forest's past, I started wondering how it all started. How did the Clans come to be in the first place? How was the warrior code made? Who decided Fourtrees should be a meeting place? And, of course, how did they discover the Moonstone?

The Moonstone is a crucial area to the Clans, and one of their most sacred places. The history of this place intrigued me long before I read this short story. My local library didn't have a copy of Warriors Field Guide: Secrets of the Clans, so I had to buy it once I had the money.

I love lore when it comes to any series I'm interested in. It's one of my favourite parts of having a new world to explore. Piecing together the clues. Hearing tales from the past. Or talking to the characters in the case of the stories I write myself.

I can't wait to share what I found about How The Moonstone Was Discovered. I hope you enjoy it.

the peaks of Highstones where the Moonstone was found

The central theme in How The Moonstone Was Discovered is intuition. Intuition is feeling like you know something or should do something that you haven't been told about in any other way. It is an instinctual sense, sometimes referred to as a 'gut feeling'. Often it is accurate. Mothflight's intuition shoed her that berries and plants might be useful. She can sense signs in the worlds around her. StarClan says her openness to these signs and her visions are the skills needed to be a medicine cat. It is her intuition about where the feather was leading her that allowed Mothflight to find the Moonstone.

The main character in this short story is the protagonist, Mothflight. The tale's told in the third person from her perspective. It follows her interactions with her clanmates and the journey she made, which allowed her to find the Moonstone. All the other characters mentioned in How The Moonstone Was Discovered are only minor, and occasionally, incidental.

The main situations in the short story follow. Mothflight finds berries when hunting and is curious about plants. She strays across the thunderpath, almost getting hit by a monster, and Windstar exiles her for her foolishness. She follows where the feather seemed to be leading her and finds a cave. She felt drawn down, deep into the cave. Mothflight comes to a cavern where the moon makes a centre stone glitter. She instinctively knows to press her nose to the stone and close her eyes. The spirit cats explain that she will be a medicine cat and tell Windstar to let Mothflight return to the Clan tomorrow.
