I don't know what to say about Hawkwing's Journey.
Was it good? Well, yeah, I guess. I liked it the last time I read it, and this time. The storyline was engaging…It just left everything feeling kind of hopeless.
Okay, so the cats just got the sign that Echosong told them StarClan was going to send. SkyClan still has faith and believe that they will soon reach the other clans.
But Echosong died after telling them about that sign! About half the Clan seems to have been killed in the battle with Darktail, left the Clan at one point or another, been taken away by two legs, or just died on the journey.
At the end of the book, it seems like there's only a handful of cats left. The manga adventure at the end makes it seem even less, as you only see a few, and they're recycled in scenes when it doesn't add anything to have them there. It looks like they don't have any other cats to put in instead.
They have no medicine cat or medicine cat apprentice. Their group is smaller than the clans of the first arc. And I say group because that's what they feel like to me, a group. They're not really a Clan anymore. So much that they need is missing.
I'm just left wondering: You know where you're going, but what are you going to do once you get there? How can you remain SkyClan? Do you really expect that you'll be able to just set up camp?
Never mind how the other clans react, but I can't see a ragtag group like them being able to function as a clan when their journey ends. I can't even see them remaining a functioning anything.

I know, of course, that SkyClan does get established around the lake. At this point in the story, though, to me, it feels hopeless.
###SPOILER ALERT END###
What do you guys think, though? Do you feel more optimistic at the end of this story? Let me know in the comments, or message me on social media.
Now, here is the summary essay for Hawkwing's Journey.
The central theme in Hawkwing's Journey is hope. Hope is the one driving force that can keep you going in dark times. If you have none, struggles can seem impossible, and even joyful occasions feel bleak and meaningless. Hawkwing loses hope of having meaning in his life after his brother dies. He sees the negative in everything he does. After two failed missions to find the other clans, and several deaths, the Clan behind to loose hope they will ever succeed. This lack of belief causes many cats to abandon the journey. The appearance of a promised sign restores the faith and hope of those still on the trip.
There are three main characters in the story. The protagonist, whose literal and metaphorical journey is followed by the audience, is Hawkwing. Leafstar and Echosong's decisions have a considerable influence on both of these journeys. Hawkwing's shortcomings, as something, he has to overcome, make him play a small role as an antagonist, causing problems for himself and others. The other antagonists have smaller parts too, not carrying on throughout the book. All the other characters that play a role in Hawkwing's Journey are either minor or incidental.
The main situations in Hawkwing's Journey follow: Echosong gets a prophecy saying SkyClan must find the other Clans. Darktail gives them directions which lead a patrol into a hoard of badgers, and racoons attack the camp. Darktail leads another patrol to dogs and then drives ShyClan from the gorge. SkyClan asks Barley where the Clans went. Pebbleshine is taken away. Two other cats become kittypets. Many cats get sick, but Echosong cures some of them. Echosong and other cats die. Hawkwing finds StarClan's sign pointing the way to the Clans' new home.
