Sorry - Why There's No New Post This Week

I’m hoping I won’t have to post this.

I’m typing this, so  can give you all an explanation if I can’t keep up with my posting schedule for some reason over the next few weeks. If you just wan to know when the next blog post will be out, skip to the bottom.

I started typing this up after my glasses broke. Yes, I have another pair, but they are sun glasses. This was because I noticed shortly after they broke (at the end of May) that working on my blog was now significantly harder.

I have scattered sight. This is things can be blurry or clear at all different distances.

You can picture it by if you looked at a landscape or cityscape in front of you, and imagined cutting it into slices. What is directly in front of you by a few centimetres is the first slice. The next few centimetres is the next slice, and so on. For me, that first slice is blurry, the next is clear, then blurry, clear, blurry, clear, all the way to the horizon.

This meant that, without my glasses, I have to hold my books at a specific distance constantly to read it. If it tilts or moves a few centimetres, the words become blurry and I lose my place. I know this sounds simple, but if you actually try holding a book completely still while sitting or standing, it’s not.

Okay, so now takes me a little longer to read the books. So what?

The longest ones are only a little over 500 pages, right? I only have to read one a week. Then all I have to do is write a short three paragraph essay about it, and type my blog. That can’t take too long, can it?

The writing, typing, adding links, pictures, and posting do only take me an hour or two at most all up, but there are other factors at play.

This is what I’m usually battling against. The glasses breaking was just the icing on the cake.

I have ADD, which causes a number of issues for me. Many people with this conditions have natural circadian rhythms which are a few hours later than most peoples. This means I’m usually still asleep when the rest of my family gets up. Many mornings I get woken up before I get eight hours sleep. Usually I’m missing three and a half to four and half hours several nights a week!

No one is at their best on low sleep. It usually catches up with me a day later though. If I don’t get enough sleep on Tuesday night, Wednesday I’ll feel fine, but Thursday I’ll feel terrible.

The family’s noise is a big problem for me. I work in my room. I have a small area set up with my desk and everything. Unfortunately, my room is situated between the lounge room, dining room, and kitchen, the latter of which my mother spends the better part of the day in. This means that even during the day I am dealing with quite a bit of noise.

Some quite noises are fine for most things, but constant loud noises in the next room make it difficult to concentrate on something I’m reading enough to form my own thoughts about it. Same with creating things such as stories, essays, and posts for this blog. The ADD doesn’t help.

Hopefully, in the not too distant future, I will have rectified these two problems. I’ve got some nice cancelling headphones for the day, and some silicone ear plugs for the night, recommended by my doctor coming.

I also have treatment for my ADD to help me focus despite it.

I also have to work my blog around my paid work. If you’re wondering, I‘m currently working at a software company. I do coding. Very different work from writing, although that is what I actually wan to do. Many people have the issue of fitting writing around other paid commitments, though.

I still manage to get my blog post done though. Except now, because the glasses are an issue on top of these. I did manage for a few weeks though. If I can overcome all of these, although it might take a while to find the balance, you should never let anything stop you from doing what you love!

As for when the next blog will come out, I’m three quarters of the way through Firestar’s Quest. When I’ve got everything ready I’ll release it to patrons, and it will be free to view next Saturday.

Sorry for the delay, and thanks for sticking with me. I hope this didn’t sound too whiny. It’s meant as an explanation rather than to complain. Thanks for reading.

And yes, I’ve ordered new glasses. I should have them within the next week!
