Firestar's Quest - Summary Essay

I have read and enjoyed Firestar's Quest several times over. It was actually a long time before I picked it up from the library, as I had some assumptions about it at the time, which were just plain wrong.

The biggest issue was the title was very vague. I had read the first series and knew who Firestar was, but as far as I was concerned, seeing as he was part of the central prophecy in that series, Firestar's 'quest' had been to save ThunderClan, and later, the forest, from Tigerstar.

The other factor that caused me to make these assumptions is the book was called a Super Edition and was quite a bit thicker than the main series books. Compounding on this was the fact that I'm not good at estimations. Half a cup is somewhere between a quarter and three quarters if I try to estimate it. No, seriously!

It was also the only Super Edition out at the time.

This left me thinking that the Super Edition was a single book containing the entirety of the events of Warriors (as this was before the arc was renamed The Prophecies Begin).

I can't remember exactly why I picked it up in the end. I think it finally hit me that it was too thin to contain the entire first series.

I really enjoyed several parts of it with I read the copy I borrowed from the library. I was a bit worried I wouldn't enjoy it during the first third and reading it would even be a bit of a chore this time, though.

This is because when reading it the first time, although I got through it at a reasonable pace, I did not enjoy the first third much. Each time I read it after that, I skipped ahead to when Firestar and Sandstorm first confront Cherry and Boris. The again to the hunting lesson, to saving Clover, and finally, to when they start properly training the kittypets.

However, I found I still enjoyed the rest of it this time around. The finding out about SkyClan and speaking to the old leader was interesting. And I also enjoyed the part where Firestar was looking for Sandstorm in the twoleg place during the journey. What are your favourite parts of the story?

Now, here is the summary essay for Firestar's Quest.

The central theme in Firestar's Quest is debt. These include debts created by others in the past and those that simply hurt other's feelings. Unpaid debts can have devastating consequences on relationships with others. An example is the Aboriginals right to, and ownership of the land as the traditional custodians being recognised in Australia. A debt which is covered throughout the book is Sandstorm's insecurity about Firestar's feelings for her in concern to Spottedleaf. After talking with both Firestar and Spottedleaf about this, she is left with a better understanding.

The main characters in the story are the two main protagonists and lead antagonist. Firestar's Quest follows Firestar's point of view, as one of the main protagonists. The other main protagonist is Sandstorm, who accompanies him on both a physical journey and metaphorical one of growth and learning. The rats are the most dangerous antagonists in the story. The lead rat is the driving force behind their behaviours and actions, and, as such, is the main antagonist in the book. The other characters that appear in the story are minor or incidental.

The main situations in Firestar's Quest follow. Firestar is asked to help a lost clan called SkyClan. He and Sandstorm go to find their old camp and descendants. Sky asks Firestar to rebuild SkyClan. Sandstorm and Firestar find rouges and kittypets who wan to join the clan, and train them. Skywatcher helps guide Firestar to SkyClan's new medicine cat. They learn that SkyClan was driven from the Gorge by rats. They start preparing for a battle with the rats. The rats try to scare the cats out of the Gorge, so Firestar launches an attack on them in response. After the battle, Echoing gets a vision that Leafdapple is to be SkyClan's new leader.
