We’re now up to the next novella collection Shadows Of The Clans.
You will not believe how much I wanted this novella collection.
Firstly, I’d heard Ravenpaw’s Farewell was really good, and I wanted to know what happened to my favourite non-clan cat after the clans moved to the lake.
Secondly, oho, Goosefeather has a curse. Sounds interesting. Plus I know what a talented medicine cat he was from Bluestar’s Prophecy, so that’s cool. And not only that, but he’s super weird too, and the weird characters are always fun to read about. See what’s really going on up there.
And finally, Mapleshade’s Vengeance. I’d always wanted a book all about her. All we know of her life is the little bit she tells Crookedstar in his super edition. I couldn’t wait to find out all the details of why she hated his lineage so much and felt so utterly betrayed by her mate.
After reading the novella…Mapleshade became my new favourite cat in the entire series!
Oh, and one thing I would have done differently if I was her, is at the end of chapter two, as Frecklewish started to walk over after her silence, I’d tuck my paws in towards my belly and repeat more firmly ”I will be raising these kits alone.”
And that’s two novella essays done very close together, and I’m planning to start working on the next one very soon. I know this won’t actually come out for a couple of weeks unless you become a patron of mine to get early releases.
The fires are starting to look better too, so I’m doing my best to get my upload schedule back on track, provided we keep getting a little rain every now and then.
Unfortunately, I can’t focus all my effort on my blog (not even my blog and other writing projects). I’m still cleaning houses, and upskilling in various fields to try and get some money in.
One day I’ll be getting some from my writing and be able to focus most of my energy on that, but until then, hope you enjoy my weekly uploads (and sooner for patrons!).
So here is the summary essay for the first novella in the Shadows Of The Clans collection, Mapleshade’s Vengeance.
The main theme in Mapleshade’s Vengeance is withholding the truth. Withholding the truth can bring great consequences. When Mapleshade didn’t correct Frecklewish’s assumption of who the father was, she caused more difficulties for herself and her kits later on. Appledusk withheld the truth about his ThunderClan mate, causing his clan to distrust him. When he didn’t tell Mapleshade about Reedshine, she hated him when she found out. If the characters had not withheld the truth, the death of Mapleshade’s kits, and the cats she killed later, might have been spared.
The main character in the novella is the protagonist, Mapleshade, whom the audience follows in the telling of the story. There is no main antagonist. All other characters that appear in Mapleshade’s Vengeance have minor or incidental roles.
The main situations in the novella are as follows. Mapleshade is expecting half-clan kits, but Frecklewish thinks her dead brother is the father. Mapleshade doesn’t correct her. Ravenwing notices the kits resemblance to RiverClan. She tells the clan who the real father is and they drive out Mapleshade. Mapleshade’s kits drown. RiverClan turns Mapleshade away. Mapleshade dreams of her kits and kills three cats she blames for their death. Mapleshade vows her vengeance on Appledusk’s kits will never end. Mapleshade dies and goes to The Place Of No Stars.
If you enjoyed this please leave a comment, and consider supporting me on Patreon. I hope that I can make enough money on the side to put more effort into my writing.
I have several projects at the moment; Karcess: Wolves in Turmoil currently gets a chapter written, edited, or rewritten once a month. I am working on Warriors fan fiction. And I also have some other stories I want to start work on, some of which you’ll be able to read free online.
If I start making enough money from my writing, I might even be able to dedicate enough time to put out blog updates more regularly once the fire crisis is over!
