Cloudstar’s Journey is my second favourite story from The Untold Stories collection. I was very interested to learn more about what happened to SkyClan after reading Firestar’s Quest.
I still remember purchasing the novella collection from the bookstore and being so excited to not only finally have this story, but to have my own copy of Hollyleaf’s Story.
When Hollyleaf’s Story came out, she was my favourite character. I didn’t have an e-reader or any other device of my own, but my sister had an iPod. I gave her the money for the e-book and asked her to purchase it so I could read it, and, up to that point, I had been reading it on her iPod every time she wasn’t using it.
The fires are still going on, but I’m doing my best to get some more blog posts out.
Without further ado, here is the summary essay for the final novella in The Untold Stories collection, Cloudstar’s Journey.
The theme of Cloudstar’s Journey is endurance and resilience. People need to have the endurance to carry on with their life, and resilience to get past any struggles they might face. These can take the form of people one cares about and hope. Cloudstar tries to constantly give his clan hope and ensure they don’t give up. He loses his own resilience when he has to leave his mate and kits behind when SkyClan leaves the forest. His love for his clanmates is the only thing that could have given him the strength to lead his clan from four trees without them.
There is only one main character in the novella. This is the protagonist, whom the reader follows throughout the story, Cloudstar. The main antagonist is the twolegs, who are no single, detailed character. All the other characters in Cloudstar’s Journey are only minor or incidental.
The main situations in the novella follow. StarClan assures Cloudstar that SkyClan will last forever. Twolegs are chopping down trees and scaring the prey. The SkyClan medicine cat gets an omen about the diminishing prey. The twolegs begin cutting down trees and building twoleg nests in SkyClan territory. Cloudstar leads his clan into battle in an attempt to retake Tall Pines from ThunderClan. The twoleg monsters destroy the rest of SkyClan’s territory. The other clans refuse to give SkyClan any of their territories and drive them from the forest.
