Thunderstar's Echo - Summary

Here is the summary essay for Thunderstar's Echo, the final novella in the Legends of The Clans collection.

The main theme of Thunderstar's Echo is letting go and acceptance of death. It is painful to lose someone you are close to, and that pain is greater when it is a person who has been with you throughout your life. Thuderstar trusts Lightning Tail completely. The burden of being a leader feels even greater after Lighting Tail's death. Every action makes Thuderstar wish he were there, and he feels no one can replace him. At the end of the novella, Thunderstar realises he is allowed to be happy despite Lightning Tail's death and chooses Owl Eyes as his new deputy.
The main character in this story is the protagonist, Thunderstar, whose journey the audience follows throughout the novella. The main antagonist is the dogs, though their conflict with Thunderstar is a secondary storyline. All the other characters that appear in Thuderstar's Echo are only minor or incidental.
The situations in the story are as follows: Lightning Tail is Tuderstar's deputy. Thunderstar knows that he can rely on Lightning Tail to help him run the clan when he has kits. Dogs invade the camp. Afterwards, Thunderstar and Lightning Tail track them. They try to block a hole in the fence, but the dogs attack and kill Lightning Tail. Thunderstar gets the twolegs to fix the hole. Thuderstar feels his duties as the leader will overwhelm him without Lightning Tail. Thunderstar accepts his friend's death and makes Owl Eyes the new deputy of ThunderClan.
