Here is the summary essay for the second novella in the Path Of A Warrior three story collection, Tawnypelt’s Clan.
Tawnypelt’s Clan explores the theme of accepting change. Many people understand that change is natural and constant, but it is not always easy to accept change. Tawnyplet feels stuck in the past and is unsure of her place. This is paralleled by her observations of Dovewing learning to accept the changing dynamics in her family as Shodowkit grows up, and comparing it to Tawnypelt’s own family. At the end of the book, Tawnypelt realises her place is still in ShadowClan, but as an ordinary warrior, and steps down as deputy. As the clan changed, so did she need to, and her place within it.
There are two main characters in this story. We see the world of the novella by following the post of view of Tawnypelt and also get a great insight into her dreams. The focal character of the novella, however, is her grandson, Shadowkit. His own abilities act as an antagonist within him, and yet he s the protagonist of Tawnypelt’s Clan. The other characters in the novella are only minor or incidental within the story.
The main situations in the plot are: Shadowkit has a vision about the Tribe Of Rushing Water. Against Tigerstar’s wishes, Dovewing and Tawnypelt take him to the tribe. Stoneteller welcomes them and allows them to sleep in the cavern of pointed stones. He and Shadowkit interpret signs from both of their ancestors the next day. They convince the tribe cats to block the stream for a tree that is held by their block just long enough to be struck by lightning and thus sparing the tribe’s cave. Stoneteller gives Shadowkit some advice to help with his visions, and the clan cats return to ShadowClan.
