Here is the summary essay for the bonus scene at the end of the third book in the Dawn Of The Clans arc, The First Battle, about how Wind met Gorse.
The main theme in the bonus scene in The First Battle is the need for companionship. This is explored through Wind’s relationships with other cats, or lack thereof. Wind feels dafe having a relationship with Branch thinking, ‘He will always take care of me.’ Pg 2. She feels grief when she finds out he has abandoned her, and vows to never trust again. Despite this, the need to interact with others couples her to help Tansy and her kits. Her need for companionship couples her to trust Gorse, even though she tries to ignore it, and even feels disappointment when she thinks he has left her. At the end she feels very happy that Gorse has returned.
In this 25 page bonus scene, there is only one main character. This is Wind, whom we follow throughout the story. The other characters in the bonus scene only appear for no more than half on the story each.
The main situations in the bonus scene are: Wind is abandoned by her closest friend. After vowing not to trust another cat, and living alone for sometime, she meets Tansy and her kits. She feeds Tasy and her kits, and saves one of her kits, Frog, from a burning tree, when there is a fire on the moor caused by lightning, with the help of Gorse, and the rain doesn’t come soon enough to put out the tree and save him. Wind realises she trusts Gorse, and finds her first friend since Branch in him at the end of the book.
