Thunder Rising: Bonus Scene - Summary

Here is the summary for the bonus scene at the end of the second book in the ‘Dawn Of The Clans’ arc, ‘Thunder Rising’ about how River Ripple got his name.

The main theme in the bonus scene is change. Change is inevitable, no matter how unlikely it may seem, and it is often hard to conceive what those changes in the future might be. In the prologue Ripple goes about his daily routine that all the cats in his home follow, and thinks “Nothing will ever change.” Pg6. This is shown to be untrue when in the following chapter twoleg monsters begin destroying the park, and the cats there are being caught and taken away by twolegs. When Ripple is carried away from the park on a log by the river he thinks “Everything is different out here.” Pg 13, and has to learn to deal with all the changes within and around the river as they come. In the last chapter Ripple realises that on his journey, he himself has changed “I’m not the young Cat of the Park anymore…[I’m] something more…” Pg 24, and to honour this change he gives himself the new name of River Ripple.

There is only one main character in this bonus story, and the is the protagonist River Ripple. There are one or two minor characters and all other characters are only incidental within this 24 page piece.

The main situations are: Ripple wakes up and begins his day. Ripple’s mentor, Arc, seems to be in a dark mood. Ripple continues his routine as normal. Twolegs come to destroy the park. While running from the destruction, Ripple falls into the river. He sits on a log, and travels down the river past twolegs, otters, and over the waterfall. Ripple decides to live by the river for the rest of his life and changes his name to River Ripple.
