The Coming of The Silver Cat - Summary Essay

Stoneteller is the Healer of The Tribe of Rushing Water. He has the role of both a leader and medicine cat, neither of which he seems to be doing here. He’s the only one who can guide the Tribe, and he’s desperate. And this desperation is reflected in the rest of the Tribe.

Whenever you’re in a role where others look to you for guidance you’ve got to be mindful of keeping emotions that are unhelpful in check. Desperate people make rash decisions or are completely devoid of any sort of energy to do anything.

Sharptooth attacking the Tribe is bad, but I think Stoneteller’s state of mind is doing just as much harm to them. When those who look up to you sense strong emotions coming from you, they often reflect them. Their collective desperation is self-destructive here.

Though maybe I’m being too hard on him. It is a terrifying situation, being stalked day and night. What do you guys think?

The summary essay for The Coming of The Silver Cat is below.

The main theme that The Coming of The Silver Cat explores is faith. Faith can come in many forms: often it is trust in religion, an individual, or a group. It can give you solace, hope, and a sense of protection. Sometimes this faith is called into question. This can be helpful, but if it happens too often, you can be left unable to trust others and yourself. Stoneteller shares his faith in his ancestors with the reader, and their promise to free the Tribe from Sharptooth. This belief is how the Tribe carries on. Stoneteller questions his faith in who the silver cat is, but quickly shakes off the doubt and fear it might bring.

There are two main characters in the short story. The first is the protagonist, Stoneteller. The Coming of The Silver Cat is told in the first person from his point of view. As a leader, he knows much of what is going on in the world. The other main character is the antagonist, Sharptooth. He doesn’t appear physically in the short story, but is referred to numerous times, and is causing problems and distress for the Tribe and Clan cats. The Clan cats are affected by Sharptooth because of The Tribe of Endless Hunting’s promise that one of them will defeat him.

The main situations are as follows: There are Clan cats in the Tribe's cave, travelling back to their home. Both they and the Tribe are facing dangers threatening their groups. The Tribe believes Stormfur will save them from Sharptooth. Stoneteller comments on the Clan cats’ dynamics. He mentions a dark destiny for two of them. Stoneteller wonders if Stormfur’s sister is the prophesied cat after seeing her fur colour, before affirming it must be Stormfur. Stoneteller beseeches his ancestors to guide the silver cat’s paws.

Thank you so much for reading.

Hopefully, this comes out on the correct day on my blog. Telstra has been having connectivity issues regarding the internet recently. It drops out at random times for indeterminate amounts of time. We’re still not sure when it will be fixed.
