Past the halfway point of The Omen Of The Stars series. Here is the summary essay for book four, Sign Of The Moon.
The main theme in Sign Of The Moon is faith. This does not just mean faith in religion, but also faith in others, faith in yourself, what you see and hear, and what you know to be right. In talking about the kits she had with Crowfeather, and her oath as a medicine cat, Leafpool says in this book that your heart knows what is right, and that is why she had to return to the clan. Jayfeather has faith in Rock when he tells him that he must go to The Tribe Of Rushing Water in the mountains to find answers about the prophecy. Teller Of Pointed Stones loses faith in The Tribe Of Endless hunting, believing they have abandoned him and his tribe because they did not help them when the intruders came to the mountains. At the end of his life, he sees them coming to get him, and regains his faith in them. The Tribe Of Endless hunting have faith that Jayfeather will choose a good Stoneteller to lead the tribe next, and Jayfeather allows their trust to give him faith in himself when he makes this choice.
The main characters in The Sign Of The Moon are the three protagonists, Jayfeather, Lionblaze, and Dovewing. Ivypool has also become a very close main character as Dovewing’s sister, and now a spy for ‘the three’. Blossomfall has become, for this book at least, the main antagonist. Rock and Half Moon also play main role in Jayfeather’s chapters of this book. Other characters in Sign Of The Moon are more minor or incidental.
The main situations in Sign Of The Moon are as follows: Lionblaze is still trying to patch his relationship with Cinderheart up, after telling her about the prophecy. Lionblaze and Jayfeather realise their sister, Hollyleaf, may not be necessarily dead. Squirrelflight, Foxleap, Dovewing, and Jayfeather travel to the mountains, where Jayfeather travels back in time to make Half Moon the present day tribes first healer, and names Stoneteller’s successor in the present day. Ivypaw realises Blossomfall is training in the Dark Forest and tries to convince her that they don’t really belong there, and she doesn’t really need training from the dead cats there. The covers all the main events and situations in the book The Sign Of The Moon.
