Following is the summary essay for the third book in The Power of Three series, Outcast.
In the book Outcast, the strongest themes are those of ancestors and the past. Lionpaw begins seeing his grandfather, Tigerstar, and his uncle, Hawkfrost during training and battles, and they help him to improve his fighting techniques. Jaypaw learns more about the cats that lived at the lake before, and later became The Tribe of Rushing Water, and how they are intertwined with the prophecy about himself and his littermates. The ancestors and traditions if the Tribe are asked for guidance and questioned time and again concerning the intruders in the mountains. The cats constantly look towards their ancestors for guidance, and learn as much as they can from the past.
The main characters are compiled as much from groups, as they are individual cats. They include the three protagonists Lionpaw, Jaypaw, and Hollypaw. The Tribe To-Be, Pebble That Rolls Down Mountain, also plays a large role in the second half of the book. The main groups are the travelling Tribe cats, the Clan cats that go to the mountains, the intruders in the mountains, and the Tribe as a whole.
The main situations in the book are Lionpaw begins getting training from Tigerstar and Hawkfrost, Jaypaw is told by Rock that to answer his questions he must go to the mountains, and several Clan cats, including the three protagonists, help the Tribe of Rushing Water to live side by side with the intruders.
